Cameraman Ben Tessler says:
"I provided a camera and a Boxx link for the recent Ashes Test Matches. I went along the day before and helped to set it up and showed the guys how it worked, then I left it with Cricket Australia for them to use. It was as easy as that.
Previously they used directional microwave systems which were quite limiting. The advantage of Boxx is that it can go anywhere in the field of play, into the crowd, into the stands and entertainment areas, and get a live signal out. It is a huge advantage.
This was the first time they had used a wireless system at the WACA (Western Australia Cricket Association) Ground and because the game is covered by so many broadcasters, there was a lot of wireless equipment operating in the area and we were a little bit concerned that we might strike problems with interference. We were right in the centre of the city, next door to the police station which has a lot of communications, but it wasn't an issue at all – the Boxx system performed well above its specifications in terms of line-of-sight and distance.
The receiver was positioned behind glass in the control room. This was really for the sake of convenience, but there was no need to put it anywhere else, it worked so well. This meant it was near to the main equipment, while there were five flights of stairs to the broadcast camera platform.
We used the Boxx system for the pre-game show and the entertainment in the lunchtime breaks and the big screens.
Every time I take the system out, people are amazed to see how well it works and how easy it is to operate. It is an exciting product to work with - it's revolutionising the way we can transmit live pictures without cables and giving us a way to overcome restrictions that used to be a major stumbling block in the past."
