Mark Pederson, CTO and Founder of OFFHOLLYWOOD talks about using a Boxx Meridian system on the CBS show, Blue Bloods:
"The show was shooting on Red 1 MX cameras and the production was very adamant about having a cable-free environment – so everything had to be wireless. There are a number of wireless camera systems on the market, so OFFHOLLYWOOD evaluated them all, but we found Boxx to be by far the best.
As we're a small and growing company, it was a big deal for us to get the show, and we wanted to give them the best. The Boxx system is more expensive than some of the other wireless systems, but it is worth every cent. Blue Blood shoots four days a week on a sound stage and at other times running around the streets at night. They shoot a lot in cars. With such aggressive shooting, it's important to have a high end system.
The show shoots with three cameras in the main camera package. One is always mounted on a Steadicam and the others are used on the show. There are two operators – one of them is also the Steadicam operator. Camera A and Camera B both have Boxx transmitters attached all the time and they send the pictures to the monitors where the Director sits, so as there are no cables on set, they are using Boxx continuously. There is no playback, because they are shooting so fast."
Eric Camp, digital imaging technician on the Blue Bloods adds. "We have been running the (Boxx) portable Meridian solution since August and I just wanted to say how fantastic your product is. I can't say enough how pleased we are with it. I can say that every person involved with the picture (creating and advisory) here will be insisting upon this system in the future."
A big deal for Boxx Meridian
The Boxx Meridian system was demonstrated and used on the set of Deal Or No Deal this week with great results. As almost all the presenter led links are from the Steadicam, using traditional COFDM systems can cause lip sync issues. Meridian delivers Zero delay uncompressed video and also allows the vision engineer to use the original Sony RCP to control the wireless camera.

3D Wireless Fibre on show at NAB
Achieve the quality of fibre optic cabling without the hassle of running cables.
A dual channel HD uncompressed, cable free, latency free, error free, wireless system.
Cerulean utilises the licence-exempt 60GHz spectrum and is capable of sending two independent, uncompressed SMPTE 292M (SMPTE372M) production video streams simultaneously without the need for compression or forward error correction (and the associated latency). The product is ideal for multiple camera or 3D feeds, or as a redundant hot standby installation for critical real-time acquisition.
